These handmade wooden cutting boards are crafted from one piece of highly figured black walnut. This particular batch was harvested from falled (or already fallen) trees, so no live trees had to cut or milled. Each piece is truly one of a kind with its own individually pronounced character displayed within its figuring, color, texture, and tones.

These items have not been stained, dyed, or altered in any way. They are simply shaped, sanded, and finished with food-grade oil and wax to help preserve and prepare them for use. Understated beauty at its best.

The chocolatey velvet unique grain patterns within these cutting boards will bring elegant beauty to any room. Perfect for special occasions or everyday use.

Care Instructions

Cleaning
Always hand wash both sides of your cutting board with warm-to-hot, soapy water, and rinse well. Do not submerge your cutting board in water. Never place your cutting board in the dishwasher. After washing, wipe it dry and leave standing on its edge to allow ample air circulation through the board.

Conditioning
Routine care of your wooden cutting board is key to maintaining its beauty and increasing longevity. For best results, we recommend you condition your cutting board with a cutting-board-specific oil weekly for the first month. Your home has a unique climate and humidity level; oiling the board helps your cutting board adjust to its new environment. After the first month, you likely only need to condition the board monthly or on an as-needed basis. You’ll know the board is due for oiling if it starts to appear dull, patchy, or feels rough.

Oiling Instructions
Only apply oil when the board is clean and 100% dry; never apply oil when the board is wet or damp. Spread a generous layer to all sides of the board: front, back, top, bottom, and both sides, including the finger grips. Pay particular attention to massaging the oil into any visibly dry spots. Once the oil has had enough time to soak in, if needed, apply an additional layer of oil to any still-visibly dry areas. Lightly wipe off the excess oil with a dry cloth or paper towel, and your cutting board is ready to get back to work!

Additional Don'ts
Do not place hot pots and pans on the cutting board. Do not use vegetable oils such as canola, olive, coconut, or grapeseed oil to condition your board. Instead, always use food-safe oil specially designed for cutting boards, such as Walrus Oil or food-safe mineral oil.

Optional Wax
Applying a food-grade wax after oiling further aids in retaining the cutting board’s moisture and extending the time between conditioning. Spread the wax onto all surfaces of the cutting board, similar to when you applied the oil. Gloved fingers work great. Buff out excess wax with a cloth and leave the cutting board to cure overnight, sitting on one of its edges for maximum airflow.
